New initiative: Explore more environmentally friendly raw materials while ensuring safety

Plastic packaging is a hot topic of discussion worldwide due to its controversial impact on the environment. On the one hand, its convenience and sustainability make it an essential product for consumers, particularly in the food and beverage industry. On the other hand, the lack of recycling and degradability of plastic packaging, coupled with the production of harmful gases and particles during its disposal, poses a significant environmental challenge.
In response to these issues, many countries are taking steps to regulate the use of plastic packaging. For example, the European Union has recently made significant changes to its Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulations (PPWR), which includes elevating the reduction target of plastic packaging, banning the use of harmful chemicals like phthalates, and mandating all packaging to be recyclable. These measures aim to promote the transition to more environmentally friendly packaging materials and reduce the environmental impact of plastic packaging.
In addition, the Ellen MacArthur Foundation and the United Nations Environment Programme have launched a global initiative to reduce the use of virgin plastic in packaging by nearly 20% by 2025. This initiative is supported by a number of brands and retailers, who have pledged to use more recycled plastic and increase the recyclability of their packaging.

To mitigate these obstacles, Umetass have begun exploring alternative packaging materials, such as biodegradable and recyclable options. In 2023, we got GRS certification, an international, voluntary product certification standard dedicated to Reduce the harmful impact of production on people and the environment, assure that products are processed in a more climate-friendly way and encourage higher proportions of recycled content in products.
Generally, our products are predominantly constructed from brand new plastic pellets for optimum food contact safety and quality. However, we also support to add certain percentage of PCR(post consumer plastic) raw materials in production to meet the varying needs of customers worldwide.
